The National Institutes of Health (NIH) conducted the most alarming study and followed 33,497 women for nearly 11 years. For people who reported using hair straightening products, the rate of uterine cancer doubled. Another study by the International Journal of Cancer found that of the 46,709 women who followed, women who used hair relaxer products were at significantly greater risk of breast cancer.
